Why Is Guanaja in Honduras Known as the Venice of Honduras?
The island population is about 10,000, with the majority living on Bonacca, a small cay just off the south shore of the island. This densely populated cay has been described as the Venice of Honduras because of the waterways that run through it. Bonacca sits a half mile off of the main island of Guanaja. More than 6,000 people live on this tiny cay, which is less than 100 acres or 0.4 km².
